Minister Basuki Expects IWRA And AWC Support In WWF 2024

JAKARTA - Through the World Water Council (WWC) General Assembly, March 19, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal, Indonesia has been selected to host the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) of 2024.

The 10th WWF peak activity will be held in Bali on 18-24 May 2024.

Related to this, the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono hopes for the support of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) and the Asia Water Council (AWC) to produce concrete results in the next 10th World Water Forum 2024 in Bali.

This was revealed by Minister Basuki in a bilateral meeting at the 2nd Stakeholder Consultation Meeting on October 12-13, 2023.

During the meeting, Basuki also suggested that IWRA have a national secretariat (chapter) in Indonesia, apparently with the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD) with the National Committee on Large Dams (INACOLD) and the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) with the Indonesian National Committee On Irrigation And Drainage (INACID)/Indonesian National Committee for Irrigation and Drainage (KNI-ID).

"So far, we have professional associations in the field of water resources such as the Indonesian Hydroulic Technical Expert Association (HATHI)," Basuki said in a written statement, Monday, October 16.

Responding to this, the Executive Director of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) Callum Cleanch invited Indonesia to send a letter in the form of Letter of Interest (LoI) to have a national secretariat (Cappter) in Indonesia from IWRA.

"This is very possible to have a national secretariat IWRA in Indonesia. For that, we invite Indonesia to send an official letter for the next process," he said.

Callum also invited Minister Basuki to attend the Congress related to the Small Islands in 2024. "We will send further information about next year's island Congress," he said.

Meanwhile, in a meeting with the Secretary-General of the Asia Water Council (AWC) and also General Manager of K-Water Yong-dook Cho, Minister Basuki discussed the progress of the water cooperation plan.

Several forms of cooperation between K-Water and Indonesia, namely in the implementation of the Karian Dam in West Java, which is one of the public private partnership (PPP) projects.

In addition, there is also the development of the Sepaku Semoi water treatment plant on IKN Nusantara which uses zero carbon technology, as an effort to support the platform's Green Transition Initiatives (GTI).
