JAKARTA - The 3rd Annual ASEAN International Conference Energy and Environment (AICEE) was held again for the third time, with the aim of encouraging collaboration among academics, policymakers, and industry experts to address energy and environmental challenges in the ASEAN region. AICEE 3 is organized by the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE) and organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia.

With the theme 'Accelerating a Just, Secure and Resilient Energy Transition in ASEAN through Innovation and Interconnectivity', AICEE this year has an important meaning because it was held to coincide with the ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) and the 41st ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM-41), creating a synergistic environment for inter-disciplinary collaboration and various parties in ASEAN.

The core of this conference is the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021-2025, a regional blueprint for energy cooperation implemented by ACE. Embrace energy transition as a basis element to achieve regional energy security and environmental sustainability is the main principle of APAEC.

"This year's conference theme reflects our commitment to building a sustainable energy line for ASEAN," said Dr. Zulfikar Yurnaidi, Manager of ACE and Chairman of AICEE 3rd, in a statement, Thursday, August 24.

With more than 150 incoming abstracts and nearly 100 presentations of papers, this year's AICEE conference promises a series of topics reflecting a wide range of energy properties and environmental issues. These topics include:

- Energy Transition and New Developing Technology: Discussing dynamical shifts towards sustainable energy sources, policy incentives, and increasing energy efficiency.

- Interconnection: Security and Accessibility: Discussing the interconnectivity of energy networks, cyber and physical security, as well as encouraging regional cooperation.

- Sustainability, Engineering, and Infrastructure: Explore practices to reduce emissions, promote renewable energy, and increase climate resilience in various sectors.

- Carbon Price Determination and Green Investment: Highlighting the importance of carbon pricing and a green investment mechanism to switch to low-carbon technology.

- Energy and Digitization: Reviewing the combination between energy and digital technology, including IoT and blockchain, for efficient energy systems.

- Environmental, Policy and Social Economy: Analyzing multidimensional properties of energy transitions, ranging from policies and governance to international cooperation.

Academic partners and AICEE administrators play an important role in the success of this conference. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as co-hosts, contribute expertise and resources.

In addition, academic partners, namely Universiti Teknologi Nasional (UNITEN) Malaysia, ASEAN Climate Change and Energy Project (ACCEPT) II, Energy Research Institute (ERI), Chulalongkorn University, University of Hawaii'i, Faculty of Engineering, University of Indonesia (FTUI), and support from the National Energy Technology Center (ENTEC), Thailand, also provided valuable input.
