JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements will immediately begin the construction of two new national strategic projects (PSN) in Manokwari Regency, West Papua.

"There are two activities that will be carried out by the Ministry of PUPR in 2023-2024, namely the construction of Sanggeng Market and the arrangement of the Borarsi Public Arena in Manokwari," said Director General of Human Settlements Diana Kusumastuti in a written statement, Saturday, July 15.

Sanggeng Market is the oldest market in Manokwari Regency with a land area of 27,809 m2.

This market experienced a fire disaster in 2018, so this year the reconstruction of buildings with proper and adequate governance will be carried out to improve the people's economy and the original income of the Manokwari Region.

"The construction of this market will use the concept of a green building building, referring to the Pon Market in Trenggalek. The center of the market building will also be opened so that air circulation and light can enter," said Diana.

Sanggeng Market to be built consists of 3 floors that can accommodate 394 kiosks and 1,016 units of stalls and are equipped with parking lots and green open spaces. "God willing, the construction can start this August and be carried out for 11 months so that it can be completed in July 2024," said Diana.

Meanwhile, the Borarsi Public Arena area is an open area that will be arranged into a representative public space as a family recreation area, socio-cultural economy, religion, and sports for the people of Manokwari and its surroundings.

"In this area, the MSME center will be built and in the middle there will be a kind of hall or field. Meanwhile, the right and left sides can be used for other community activities," said Diana.

For your information, the Borarsi Public Arena area will be built on an area of 23,752 m2 with a main building area of 4,903.71 m2.

Construction work will begin in July after land acquisition by local governments is completed and is targeted for completion by 2024.
