Welcoming FIBA World Cup 2023 In Indonesia, The Ministry Of PUPR Completes The Development Of IMS GBK

The Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR has completed the construction of the Indoor Multifunction Stadium (IMS) in the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area, Jakarta.

The construction of the GBK IMS is carried out in order to welcome the implementation of the FIBA World Cup which will be held on August 25, September-10, 2023. Indonesia was chosen as the host together with Japan and the Philippines.

Director of Strategic Infrastructure of the Directorate General of Human Settlements Essy Asiah said the Ministry of PUPR as the supervisor of building regulations received an assignment from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to prepare a multifunctional indoor venue.

"When Indonesia was appointed to host the 2023 FIBA World Cup, we did not yet have a representative building for the implementation of world-class events. Thus, IMS was built as the largest indoor multifunctional facility in Indonesia," said Essy in the BCI Construction+ Focus: Sustainable Design, Construction & Safety for Indoor Stadium at IMS GBK, quoted Friday, June 30.

Although originally built for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, IMS can also be used for sports facilities other than basketball, such as volleyball, badminton, tennis, MMA, athletics, and others. IMS can also be used for non-sports facilities, such as concerts, meetings, conventions, or exhibitions.

IMS is located in Block 10 of the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Senayan area, Jakarta, with an area of 31,826 m2 belonging to the Ministry of State Secretariat under the management of PPKGBK. The building is 50,398 m2 and can accommodate an audience capacity of 16,000 people.

The IMS development was carried out by PT Adhi Karya-PT Nindya Karya-PT Penta (KSO) with a budget sourced from the APBN through the 2021-2023 Multi Years Contract Contract (MYC) scheme worth IDR 640.4 billion.

The IMS has been handed over its management to PPKGBK in June 2023. Meanwhile, the construction has been completed 100 percent and is waiting for President Jokowi's inauguration

"Our hope is that the GBK IMS will be maintained and operated properly so that all buildings function, the building life is also in accordance with plan and sustainable," added Essy.

For your information, the construction of the IMS has met the technical standards of the Green Building Building (BGH) by achieving the title of Intermediate in its planning and implementation.

In addition, IMS has also utilized the 7D Asset Management Building Information Modelling (BIM). Thanks to this achievement, the construction of the IMS has succeeded in becoming a guidelines/sample for the construction of sports venues for organizing FIBA matches

In the Construction+ Focus Activity, the Director of Settlement Engineering and Housing Development of the Directorate General of Human Settlements and Settlements, Director of Operations II PT Adhi Karya Tbk (Persero), President Director of Penta Architecture Forest Jieprang, and Co-Principal Aboday Design Rafael David were also present.
