JAKARTA - Head of the National Food Agency Arief Prasetyo Adi said he would hold a low-cost chicken market operation in Jakarta. This market operation will last three to one week.
This step was taken in response to President Jokowi's findings regarding the fairly high increase in chicken prices at Palmerah Market, West Jakarta.
"I am with the Governor (DKI Jakarta) of course with Perum Dharma Jaya, with a private sector we will prepare two days and three days for the next week for chickens at a good price," Arief told reporters in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 27.
Arief said that the sub-districts that are the locations for this cheap market operation will be prepared by the DKI Food Security, Maritime Affairs, Fisheries Service (KPKP).
"So the figure will be around Rp. 36,000 so that later people can get the price of chickens at a good price," he said.
In addition, Arief said the National Food Agency had been instructed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to set a reasonable price at the producer level.
"Because it shouldn't be too cheap, farmers will lose later, the cage is closed. So the price in farmers must be a fair price. We calculate the cost of production, then the price in traders is reasonable, to consumers it is reasonable," he explained.
Arief also straightened out President Jokowi's findings regarding the increase in chicken prices to Rp50,000 per kilogram (kg) when conducting inspections at Palmerah Market.
"I was with the Governor, Pasar Jaya friends checked directly at Palmerah Market. In Palmerah, the price of chicken is IDR 50,000, chicken fillet. So it must be straightened out that chicken fillet isboneless (without bones and skin) for IDR 50,000," he said.
Meanwhile, the price of carkas chicken, said Arief, is priced at a different price depending on the weight of the chicken.
"Then the price of carkas chicken is 1.3 kilos, 1.4 kilos, it costs Rp. 43,000, Rp. 44,000. So the figure is still around Rp. 36,000 and it's still a fair price," he explained.
Regarding the increase in chicken prices, said Arief, the increase in D-2 ahead of Eid al-Adha is a natural thing. However, with a record increase of 5 to 10 percent of the normal price.
"If the D-2 Eid increases by up to 5-10 percent, it can still be tolerated, but if it reaches Rp50,000 the figure cannot be tolerated," he said.
