JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Directorate General of Human Settlements has completed the rehabilitation of the Gedhe Klaten Market in Central Java Province, this year.

The market rehabilitation was carried out by the Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of the Directorate General of Human Settlements. Gedhe Klaten Market Rehabilitation is carried out in two stages.

Phase I consists of the construction of Zone 3 as many as 50 units of kiosks and Zone 4 as many as 28 units of kiosks, and has been completed in 2021. The market rehabilitation budget for phase I is IDR 4.7 billion.

Then, the rehabilitation of the Gedhe Klaten Phase II Market consists of the construction of a three-story building consisting of Block A and Block B. Block A consists of 314 kiosks and 466 stalls. Meanwhile, Block B has 46 kiosks, 44 meat stalls, 209 oprokan, and 306 motorcycle parking units.

Furthermore, the construction of the Gedhe Klaten Phase II Market began in December 2021, which was carried out by contractor PT Karya Bangun Mandiri Persada with a budget of IDR 88 billion, Construction Management Consultant PT Gapssary Mitra Kreasi KSO PT Manggalakarya Bangun Sarana with a budget of IDR 1.9 billion.

Head of the Central Java Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) Kuswara said that currently the construction progress has been completely completed and is ready to be inaugurated.

"Furthermore, Klaten Regent Sri Mulyani will conduct socialization and mechanism for distributing kiosks to traders on Saturday, June 24, 2023," he said in a written statement, Tuesday, June 20.

"Then, the numbering and distribution of kiosks are scheduled by the Regency Government for 1 month until July 31, 2023. Meanwhile, the transfer of traders is planned for August 1, 2023," he added.

The Gedhe Klaten Market building is also equipped with vertical transport infrastructure in the building in the form of a travelator and escalator to facilitate the accessibility of market users from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor.

Gedhe Klaten Market also implements the green building concept, one of which is the installation of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 207 KWP.

The renovation of the market by the Ministry of PUPR is a mandate of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 43 of 2019 concerning Development, Rehabilitation, or People's Market Renovation, Higher Education Infrastructure, Islamic Religious Universities, and Basic and Secondary Education Units.

This rehabilitation is expected to facilitate buying and selling transactions, increase the convenience of traders and buyers, and improve the community's economy.

Meanwhile, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said market development/rehabilitation was carried out by increasing market function as a means of people's trade, so that it became a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly, and more aesthetic (not slum) building.

"It is hoped that quality market infrastructure can be directly felt, especially ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to move the real sector or MSMEs that are evenly distributed to remote villages throughout Indonesia," he said.
