Sri Mulyani Urges Business Actors To Anticipate Geopolitical Challenges

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani appealed to business actors to anticipate global geopolitical challenges.

His statement refers to the tensions that have occurred between the United States and China as the world's two largest economic sources.

Sri Mulyani said globalization might make economic actors have a mindset that the world has no boundaries.

Economic actors, he said, are more focused on things that are profitable, efficient, and make growth together.

However, the situation will be different when war between the United States and China breaks out.

ASEAN countries will most likely be trapped in conditions to choose sides with one of them, especially in the context of trade.

However, he hopes that war will not occur, but he appealed to business actors to prepare an anticipatory scenario of the situation.

"Otherwise, if many choose to think about it later, maybe it can slow down," he said.

Sri Mulyani stated that the anticipatory steps were also taken by the Ministry of Finance.

During the draft State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (RAPBN), the Ministry of Finance always considered geopolitical conditions in the future.

"So, we continue to coordinate. We also interact with the Western and Russian blocs. That's a must," explained Sri Mulyani.

However, the State Treasurer believes that the global geopolitical situation can also be accepted as an opportunity.

This is because Indonesia has the principle not to side with certain nations, but to be with many nations.

Therefore, Indonesian economic actors have the opportunity to be able to continue to grow, move forward, and grow more without being limited by options that limit business movements.
