JAKARTA - Fashion designer and General Chair of the Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI) Poppy Dharsono assessed that the local fashion market had improved.

The owner's full name Poppy Susanti Dharsono when met in Jakarta, Saturday (29/4) said the market share of Indonesian local brands is very large. However, there are several technical things that still have to be maximized so that Indonesian products can survive in the midst of the onslaught of clothing brands from abroad.

"I see the market is good, but the pattern (wear) is still not good," said Poppy.

He explained that some fashion designers still use the wrong clothing cutting technique. Poppy and APPMI also took the initiative to provide a short course on cutting appropriate clothes to some fashion designers at the Ramadan Runaway 2023 event.

As an effort to improve the quality of Indonesian local brands, Poppy and APPMI held a special course so that the expertise of Indonesian fashion designers could improve. One of them is by organizing the Ramadan Runaway 2023 event for selected fashion designers.

In addition to making a special fashion show stage for local fashion designers, Poppy said she would make special guidelines regarding the size of people's clothing in Indonesia. According to him, the most important thing for fashion designers and entrepreneurs in Indonesia is to adjust the size of the clothes that is right for the community.

Therefore, he and APPMI will soon launch special guidelines for fashion designers to suit the standardization of clothing for most people so as to reduce complaints about the inappropriate size of clothing from local brand designers.

Last year, we launched it. We are now in the process of guidance (standardization of clothing sizes) for designers," said Poppy.

The clothes size guidelines no longer use letter size units, such as S, M, L, but number size units, such as 36, 38, and others. This is considered more accurate and recognized by international standards.

Regarding the fashion trend in Indonesia in 2023, Poppy said APPMI as a forum for Indonesian fashion designers is trying to create its own fashion trend. Even so, APPMI still sees the condition of the fashion trend abroad so that it remains up-to-date or not outdated.

APPMI creates its own trend and we'll see the references from Paris, New York, (and several other countries)," said Poppy.

Poppy also assessed that the trend of clothing in Indonesia as much as possible had a touch of ethnicity typical of Indonesian culture. For example, during a fashion show in Jakarta some time ago, a traditional cloth typical of Gorontalo, namely Karawo, was promoted to the event.

In addition, the choice of clothing color is important to match the pattern or pattern of clothing itself.

Poppy advised local fashion designers who want to be better known to the public to continue to study and participate in fashion shows and performances organized by several parties, one of which is APPMI. In addition, consistency in clothing and quality works needs to be maintained so that it can last a long time.

"You have to keep going," said Poppy.
