JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono ensured that the implementation of the Quota-based Measurable Fish Fishing (PIT) policy would provide many privileges and encourage the empowerment of small fishermen.

According to him, the implementation of PIT will build a modeling of 10 integrated developed fishing villages whose locations are planned around the fishing zone.

"The development aims to improve the quality of human resources while increasing the productivity of small fishermen who are members of cooperatives," he said in a written statement on Friday, March 24.

Trenggono explained that a number of facilities provided were docks, ship dockings, cold storage, ice factories, fish markets, and aid ships.

"Ajan was also developed by the communication center, including the training center which will later be filled by extension workers. And we record that the residents there, whose names are small fishermen in one village, we direct them to join one cooperative," he said.

Trenggono added that small fishermen who are members of cooperatives still get a catch quota, and are not even subject to a Non-Tax State Withdrawal (PNBP) like investors or business actors receiving quotas in the industrial zone.

"Small fishermen are not subject to PNBP at all," he said.

In addition, Minister Trenggono added that other things that are no less important, he believes that the implementation of PIT will oversee government assistance for small fishermen to be more targeted.

In terms of the distribution of fuel, for example, small fishermen who should be most entitled to subsidized diesel fuel in SPBN. "For local traditional fishermen, we prepared the villages earlier. We built it. We also prepared gas stations that really did. For example, one village contains 1,200 people, we recorded how many ships, how many fuel needs. We can calculate that, so we can know how much the needs are. So we put the SPBN there, really for them," he concluded.
