PT PGN Tbk as Pertamina Gas Subholding conducted a first welding on the construction of natural gas pipeline infrastructure for PT Fajar Surya Wisesa Tbk (FSW) or FajarPaper. The infrastructure development was built for the safety of natural gas supply and the provision of environmentally friendly energy for FSW.

FSW has conveyed the need for natural gas at 11.67 to 17.5 BBTUD. Currently, PGN has served around 240 industries in the Bekasi area with an absorption volume of approximately 71 BBTUD. The need for natural gas is quite large, making FSW one of the customers with the largest natural gas absorption in Bekasi.

"FSW requires certainty of supply for operational sustainability, along with increasing production. For this reason, we are trying to fulfill natural gas for FSW or FajarPaper, both for ad-hoc and long-term through the construction of pipeline infrastructure to the FSW production plant," said General Manager Sales and Operation Region II PGN (SOR II) Sonny Rahmawan Abdi in the First Welding Infrastructure Ceremony of Natural Gas Pipes at FSW, Tuesday, March 21.

Sonny continued, FSW has a vision to become a company that produces paper on a world scale using a responsible process. Therefore, PGN also wants to equalize the vision with FSW to carry out the pipeline construction process with full responsibility.

"With a large enough volume of gas demand, the commercialization process has been implemented and today the first welding of pipe construction is approximately 2 KM with a diameter of 12 inches. FSW is also a strategic partner for PGN, a commitment that is responsible for our joint environment. Of course, we will take care of the safety aspects responsibly until the time of this gas," said Sonny.

In the construction of the pipeline to FSW, PGN collaborated with a subsidiary, namely PT PGAS Solution.

Our target is zero accident. We are trying to optimize so that the construction of pipes in FSW can run on time, on budget, and on quality. The expectation of this gas time is not expected to be hampered," said Technical Director & Development of Lebinner Sinaga.

"Currently we have started a new chapter, the relaxation of the pandemic has started and economic growth is running again. We hope that the provision of natural gas through the PGN pipeline can supply more stable and consistent gas, thus helping FSW production to be better for both the domestic and foreign markets," explained the Director of PT Fajar Surya Wisesa Tbk Yustinus Y Kusumah.

Currently, 70 percent of FSW's production capacity is to provide domestic packaged paper. Yustinus revealed that the demand for packaged paper has also increased. Therefore, FSW needs to partner, one of which is PGN in terms of energy as the blood of a production process.

"We would like to thank PGN. Hopefully, the construction process will run smoothly and the target for this gas can be realized smoothly. Hopefully this collaboration will provide benefits for FSW and PGN, and in the future gas consumption will not only be used in Jakarta but also in Surabaya, "said Yustinus.

FSW has the infrastructure to support production such as 2 Turbin Gas and 1 Steam turbine. Coupled with the use of gas in FSW, it is hoped that it can get further towards environment friendly. Given that FSW produces paper with 100 percent recycled to help preserve the environment, and uses energy sources to make FSW a clean industry.

For information, FajarPaper is a multinational company that produces packaged paper based in Jakarta, Indonesia. The company was founded in 1987 and has 6 paper machines with a production capacity of 1.3 million tons per year. The company produces a variety of packaged paper materials such as Coated Duplex, Container Board, and White Liner Board.

PGN is committed to meeting natural gas needs for various industrial sectors, in line with the government's target of encouraging economic growth through industry. With a large absorption from the industrial sector, PGN continues to be motivated so that the availability of gas supply is maintained and natural gas infrastructure resilience is wider.

"We are also grateful for FSW's trust to use natural gas from PGN. Natural gas flows 24 hours in 7 days, will be absorbed and used by FSW to support more efficient and environmentally friendly production," concluded Sonny.
