JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Policy Agency predicts that as many as 123.8 million people will travel during the 2023 Lebaran homecoming.

This number is based on the results of a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation on 28 January-18 February 2023.

The number involved in the survey is 10,000 respondents and the margin of error is less than five percent.

Transportation observer Djoko Setijowarno said that the number of people moving during Lebaran this year was quite high.

He asked the Ministry of Transportation and related parties to pay attention to these five things.

"Like the previous Eid season, there are at least five things that need serious attention from the government," said Djoko in an official statement received by VOI, Monday, March 13.

First, the government was asked to focus on arranging rest areas on toll roads. Second, the management or management of the Merak-Bakauheni Ferry Port is more optimized.

Third, the safety of travelers who use motorbikes is very vulnerable to traffic accidents.

Next, the government was asked to optimize in realizing the free homecoming program, and the five governments were asked to pay attention to the path (road network) that will be used for going home.

Judging from last year's homecoming trend, the Trans Java toll road is still the favorite route for travelers, reaching 33.35 percent or 9.2 million people.

"The choice of the Java north coast (Pantura) route is 5.63 percent or 1.5 million people and the Java south coast (Pansela) route is 5.04 percent or 1.4 million people," said Djoko.

Djoko said the reason for not choosing the Java Southern Route (Pansela) was because the destination for the homecoming area was closer if via the Pantura route.

In addition, the Pantura Route is considered safer and more comfortable. Meanwhile, the Pansela Route is prone to traffic jams with winding road conditions.

"Weaknesses of the Java Southern Route (Pansela) are damaged roads, lacking supporting infrastructure, narrow and winding roads, as well as road congestion and safety," he concluded.
