Died As A Result Of The Plumpang TBBM Fire, This BPJS Employment Participants Get Compensation Of IDR 48 Million

JAKARTA - BPJS Ketenagakerjaan pays benefits to participants who are victims of the burning of the Oil Fuel Tank (TBBM) in Plumpang, North Jakarta, which occurred last week.

M Suheri, a BPJS Employment participant who worked as an employee of the building materials store, died while trying to evaluate his family members who were also victims. Although he was declared missing, finally the National Police Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) Team has succeeded in identifying the victim on Tuesday, March 7.

Based on this information, the Rapid Response Service Team (LCT) immediately confirmed and it was found that the victim was still active as a participant in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

As a form of responsibility and concern, the President Director of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan Anggoro Eko Cahyo directly handed over the benefits of employment social security worth Rp48 million to the heirs of the late Suheri. Anggoro said this was proof that the state was present to ensure the welfare of workers and their families.

"First of all, on behalf of myself and management, I express my deep condolences to Ria's mother for the passing of the late Mr. Suheri who was one of the victims of the Pertamina Plumpang Depot fire incident. Today I and the Secretary of North Jakarta Administration City Mr. Abdul Khalit handed over Death Security, Old Age Security and Pension Security which are the rights of the participant heirs. Of course this cannot replace the deceased, but it can be a little mitigating in a state of disaster like this," explained Anggoro, in his statement, Sunday, March 12.

On this occasion, Anggoro appreciated the commitment of the North Jakarta City Government which has encouraged all business entities in its area including the Liberty Jaya Shop to register all of its employees as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants.

"Thank you to the City Secretary who helped encourage all business entities within the City of North Jakarta, so they registered the workers. Indeed, the benefits are only felt if there is a risk, therefore we encourage them together, because this is our common obligation. The state has prepared social security protection for all citizens who work and our obligation to register our employees, "added Anggoro.

Meanwhile, North Jakarta City Administration Secretary Abdul Khalit said that his party is currently focusing on recovering the community and the environment affected by the incident.

"Alhamdulillah, for this victim, we have synergized with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan, where the victim is a participant in BPJS Ketenagakerjaan from the Liberty Jaya Shop. Indeed, we initiated all business entities in North Jakarta to participate all of them into BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participation. Once again I thank BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Of course this is a very meaningful experience for us together with our business entities to make sure all these workers are participants of BPJS Ketenagakerjaan," he said.

Ria Putri Amelia, the wife of the late Suheri, could not hold back tears when she received the benefits provided by BPJS Ketenagakerjaan.

"I thank BPJS Ketenagakerjaan for caring for my family, with my husband, I and my child. I also thank PT Liberty Jaya. I apologize on behalf of my husband if there is a mistake," said Ria.

Based on the results of a search conducted by the LCT team, of the total victims of the incident, 7 of them were active BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants where 1 person had been sent home, 5 people were still undergoing treatment and 1 person was declared dead.

Last week we visited one of the participants who was undergoing treatment. We want to ensure that the participants get the best service so that they can recover soon. We will bear all maintenance without limit, if at the time of the incident the participants are working or traveling from or to work, "added Anggoro.

Anggoro reiterated the importance of all workers, both formal (Wage Recipients) and informal (Not Wage Recipients) to have employment social security protection, because this is a constitutional right for workers. In addition, disasters such as those experienced by victims can occur to anyone, anytime and anywhere. The way to become BPJS Employment participants is quite easy, BPU workers can register through the Jamsostek Mobile (JMO) application.

"So hopefully, our joint efforts will get pleasure from Allah, and we pray for the late Mr. Suheri to get forgiveness from Allah and Mrs. Ria to be given strength and fortitude," concluded Anggoro.

On another occasion, the Head of the BPJAMSOSTEK Jakarta Branch Office, Kebayoran Baru Husaini, also expressed his deep sorrow to the family of the late M Suheri.

"Hopefully the handover of these benefits can raise the awareness of other workers to immediately register themselves as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan participants," concluded Husaini.

Husaini also said that his party together with stakeholders continue to encourage all employers or business entities in their area to have awareness of the importance of protecting employment social security, namely by registering all of their workers into the BPJS Employment program.
