Ministry Of Transportation Sets Target For South Sumatra LRT Passengers To Reach 3.5 Million This Year

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) targets the number of passengers on the South Sumatra LRT (Sumsel) in Palembang to reach 3.5 million passengers by 2023.

Director of Traffic and Rail Transportation, Djarot Tri Wardhono said, there was an increase in the target of passengers this year by 500,000 passengers, from the previous 3 million passengers in 2022.

"Our target is in 2023, passengers reach 3.5 million per year," he said at a media briefing with the Directorate General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation Office, Jakarta, Thursday, March 2.

To achieve this target, Djarot said, the DJKA of the Ministry of Transportation has collaborated with the Palembang government to provide feeder or feeder services at several Palembang LRT stations.

"So the feeder will later increase the LRT ridership in Palembang and this has been proven in 2022 yesterday, the number of passengers reached 3 million passengers," he said.

Previously it was reported, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that since its launch in 2018, the development of the South Sumatra LRT has been extraordinary. In 2019 the passengers reached 2.6 million people.

Had decreased in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 1.5 million passengers. Then, in 2022 it jumped to more than 3 million.

Currently, the number of LRT South Sumatra feeders (Angkot Feeder Musi Emas) that have operated is 51 units, which are spread across seven routes and operate from morning to evening from 05.00 WIB to 19.16 WIB.

The feeder transport currently has seven travel routes, namely corridor 1 (Talang Kelapa-Talang Bad) and corridor 2 (Asrama Haji-Sematang Borang) Corridor 3 (Asrama Haji-Talang Betutu), Corridor 4 ( Polrestabes Station-OPI Residence Station), Corridor 5 (DJKA-Tegal Binangun Station), Corridor 6 (RSUD-Wedden Station), and Corridor 7 (Bukit-Budium Cambodia via Sriwijaya Station).
