JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) through the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA) has again launched the free motorbike homecoming (motis) program for Eid 2023. The prepared transport capacity is 10,440 motorbike units.
Director of Traffic and Railway Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation Djarot Tri Wardhono said the free motorbike homecoming transportation will be carried out for 20 days.
The implementation is divided during the homecoming flow from April 11 to April 20. While the return motorbike transportation takes place from April 25 to May 4, 2023.
Djarot said that the total capacity for motis transportation prepared is 522 units per day. While the total capacity prepared during the 20-day motis period is 10,440 motorbike units.
Meanwhile, said Djarot, the daily passenger quota is 2,336 people. Meanwhile, the total capacity prepared during the 20-day motivational period is 46,720 people.
"DJKA presents a free motorbike homecoming program starting for more than 40 days for Eid. The aim is to transfer the use of motorbikes to trains to reduce the fatigue level of motorbike riders and reduce traffic accidents," he said at the Casual Chat event, at the Ministry of Transportation, Jakarta, Monday, February 20.
Djarot said the motis program this year was different from the previous year.
This year, said Djarot, DJKA will combine a series of passenger trains with freight trains.
That way, said Djarot, passengers and goods can go home together on a series of trains.
"So 4 passenger trains are coupled with 3 freight trains carrying motorbikes. This is what differentiates the previous motis from this year's motis," he said.
Djarot said, travelers who bring motorbikes can buy tickets for IDR 10,000 to IDR 20,000 per person.
Meanwhile, motorbikes are free of charge.
Previously, said Djarot, ticket fares were charged according to the applicable passenger train fares.
Travelers with one motorbike can also buy two train tickets.
"We charge a fairly cheap rate. Up to 330 km, pay only IDR 10,000 (per person) before being charged (tariff) according to train transportation. The rest is charged IDR 20,000 (per person)," he said.
