JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) together with Citic Seram Energy Ltd managed to find indications of hydrocarbons in the form of gas through layer testing activities at the Lofin-2 (re-entry) exploration well.

The well is located in the Non-Bula Seram Working Area (WK), Seti Village, East Seram District, Seti, Central Maluku Regency, Maluku Province.

The discovery of this gas, after re-testing the Lofin-2 (re-entry) exploration well layer which has the main objective in the carbonate rock formation of Manusela. Based on the results of this activity, the Lofin-2 (re-entry) well flows gas of 15.02 million cubic feet of gas per day or MMSCFD on a 64/64-inch choke opening.

This retesting is intended to test and evaluate the hydrocarbon potential in the carbonate rock formation of Manusela and to know the character or behavior of the reservoir. So that this activity plays an important role in the development in the Lofin structure later.

Acting Head of the SKK Migas Program and Communication Division, Mohammad Kemal, said that the gas discovery was a breath of fresh, massive, aggressive and efficient breath that continued to be carried out by SKK Migas with the KKKS.

Kemal added that the potential for petroleum reserves on Seram Island, Maluku is still quite large and at least, the potential reserves can reach 5 billion barrels.

"We have the potential for oil reserves, namely Seram Island and Warim Papua, and thank God there are investors who are interested in seeing the data," Kemal told the media, Saturday, February 11.

Meanwhile, according to the Head of the SKK Migas drilling Division, Surya Widyantoro, currently the SKK Migas and Citi Seram Energy teams are still working and on-site, monitoring and testing the strength of hydrocarbon bursts. In addition, Rig GW#123 is still working on retesting the exploration well.

"Flaring during well testing has been carried out and gas bursts are quite good," said Surya.

Status as of February 11, 2023 15.00 WIT, the activity being carried out at the Lofin-2 (re-entry) well is to continue cleaning wells (clean-up wells). For information, the Lofin-2 (re-entry) well was drilled on October 31, 2014 and reached a final depth of 19,230 ftMD on July 19, 2015.

According to Surya, the discovery of gas on Seram Island has considerable challenges in the operation of exploring well testing activities because it is located in a remote area, so it takes a long time.

"Especially for mobilizing drilling equipment and materials, wells with relatively deep depth and high reservoir pressure," said Surya.
