JAKARTA - The government is known to be still pursuing Tesla's investment commitment, namely one of the electric vehicle (EV) companies owned by one of the richest people in the world, Elon Musk. The investment decision is rumored to be emerging in the near future.

Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR Eddy Soeparno emphasized that the government should pay attention to the quality of investment, by prioritizing Indonesia's competitive edge.

"We continue to talk about Tesla, but again what competitive edge (Indonesia) is, which is the value of the competition, starting from an investment-friendly law, but also don't forget to have good investment quality," said Eddy at the launch of a report by the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA): "Investigate the Dynamics of Automotive Industries and Electric Vehicle Policy" at the AONE Hotel Jakarta, Monday, February 6.

Eddy reminded the government not to be complacent in inviting investors. According to him, the government should not let the government invite investors, one of which is Tesla, even harm state foreign exchange by granting all the requirements set by Elon Musk, such as the use of labor, raw materials, to the distribution of dividends.

"The worst thing is, Indonesia in the end becomes a market, has never been an export base," he said.

Furthermore, Eddy asked the government not to forget to promote Indonesia's resource wealth, especially related to Indonesia's largest nickel reserves potential in the world, covering 25-30 percent of the total country's production.

"So, we have to have strong diplomacy when we talk about charging batteries. We can't be in the word pick and sell cheap Indonesia," he said.

For your information, there are two automotive manufacturers that are aggressively working on the electric vehicle market in Indonesia, namely Tesla from the United States and Wuling from China.

Meanwhile, the world's automotive giants that focus on conventional segments, such as Toyota and Honda, are still considered less aggressive in marketing electric vehicle (EV) products.
