Biak-Japan Flight Supports Export Fisheries Activities

JAKARTA - The government of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua hopes that the opening of Biak's direct foreign flight route to Japan can be realized this year, thus supporting fishery export activities and increasing tourist visits to Sail Teluk Cenderawasih 2023.

"The Biak Numfor Regency Government has proposed with the central government through the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Development of the Papua Setwalpres, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment Coordinator, the Minister of Transportation, the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, the KKP, and the aviation service provider," said Biak Regent Numfor Herry Ario Naap, quoted from Antara, Monday, February 6.

He admitted, if the Biak-Japan foreign direct flight route could be realized, many positive impacts on Biak Numfor from the economic aspect could provide added value for the income of Biak local residents.

Meanwhile, another impact was reopened by direct foreign flights, according to Regent Herry Naap, encouraging foreign tourist visits to Biak Numfor.

"The plan to open overseas flight routes directly from Biak has also been desired by the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia," said Herry Ario Naap.

In addition to overseas routes, said Herry Naap, the Biak Regency Government also asked to open a new domestic flight route for Biak-Manado and Bali.

He said that the direct flight support facilities had been fulfilled, because Frans Kaisiepo Biak International Airport had a long asphalt runway of approximately 3,571 meters long.

With a long base owned by Frans Kaisiepo Biak International Airport, said Regent Herry Naap, any type of aircraft can land at Biak airport.

Herry Naap emphasized that all direct flight support facilities are ready for Biak Airport.

"Yes, the Biak Numfor Regency Government really hopes that this year the plan to open direct foreign flights can be realized, because Biak is the center for fishery exports in the Pacific region," he also said.
