JAKARTA - Former Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Chatib Basri is interested in explaining the phenomenon of 'online dating' in terms of economic activity. He conveyed this because he felt challenged to answer the current problems.

According to Chatib, the date in question must be symmetric with the assumption that the information submitted is the truth. But what if that information is not the real thing?

The former Minister of Finance in the SBY era explained that the online dating market has a tendency to provide information in fact, aka only good things. In fact, there are also markets that provide excessive explanations.

"The reason is of course he wants himself to sell well. But on the other hand, people are aware of this risk, so the information received tends not to fully believe it," he added.

What are the implications for the online market dating earlier? Chatib said there is a possibility that those who provide the actual profile, every time they receive information there will be a risk that the profile they receive (from other people) is not the real one.

So those who give the actual profile will leave the market. While what is left in the online dating market are those whose profile may not be in line with the actual profile. Then what is called in the economy as an adverse selection occurs. In this concept, online dating can only run well if information is provided perfectly," concluded Chatib.
