After Closing Dozens Of Gerai, Chairul Tanjung's Transmart Still Wants To Open A New One Again

JAKARTA - Retail belonging to the conglomerate Chairul Tanjung, Transmart has closed dozens of outlets in recent times. However, it still wants to establish another new outlet in 2023.

Transmart Vice President Corporate Communication Satria Hamid stressed that although his party decided to close several stores or outlets last year, management is still planning to open new stores.

"We will still open a new shop," he told VOI, Friday, February 3.

However, Satria stressed that it would look at the conditions in the early trimester to decide on opening a new store.

"But we wait and see first. We are now concentrating in the early trimester is internal consolidation," he said.

On this occasion, Satria admitted that many Transmart outlets were closed. However, he emphasized that it does not mean that in one area there is absolutely no Transmart outlet.

Furthermore, Satria said that there are still many Transmart outlets that are open. In fact, his party is also preparing to welcome the month of Ramadan.

As is known, the month of Ramadan falls in March. At this time, the demand for basic necessities has increased compared to usual days.

"In 2022 we (closed) 12. Most of them are in Jakarta, one in Batam. So the point is like this, not in one area, we don't have one at all. Our shop is still a lot and we have confidence, especially now that we are facing Ramadan, we are ready to prepare," he explained.

Satria also emphasized that the closure of 12 outlets in tanun 2022 was not due to business competition. However, one of them is due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first cannot be denied is the result of the pandemic itself. Second, the pattern of society has changed, they are comfortable shopping online and sent home. If I don't see business competition there, business competition is a natural thing," he said.
