JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) said that the Semarang-Demak toll road Section 2 of the Sayung-Demak section, Central Java, is ready to operate after pocketing an operating-worthy certificate.

Head of the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of PUPR, Danang Parikesit, said that currently the toll road has been completed.

"The Semarang-Demak Toll Road Functional Evaluation Team Section 2 of the Sayung-Demak section formed by the Director General of Highways has carried out a function-worthy evaluation and recommended administratively, technically, and operating systems. The Semarang-Demak Toll Road Section 2 of the Sayung-Demak section is declared function-worthy, so it is ready to be operated to the public," said Danang in his official statement, quoted on Tuesday, January 24.

According to Danang, the Director General of Highways itself has issued an Operational Feasibility Certificate for the Semarang-Demak Toll Road Section 2 of the Sayung-Demak section numbered BM.0702-Db/1696 dated December 22, 2022.

"PT PP Semarang Demak as a toll road business entity (BUJT) has an obligation to socialize the operation of toll roads. Furthermore, the determination of the operation and implementation of tariffs on toll roads will be determined through the Decree of the Minister of PUPR," he said.

The Semarang-Demak toll road itself has a length of 26.40 km which is built in two sections through the Cooperation scheme of Business Entities with the Government (PPP).

As for Section 1 for the Semarang/Kaligawe-Sayung segment, 10.39 km is the government's portion with a budget allocation of IDR 10 trillion sourced from the state budget.

Meanwhile, section 2 of the Sayung-Demak section of 16.01 km is a portion of the Toll Road Business Entity (BUJT) carried out by PT PP-PT WIKA Consortium, as well as the Technical Standard Plan Consultant (KSO) with the Supervision Consultant PT Virama Karya (Persero) with an investment value of IDR 5.93 trillion.

The presence of the Semarang-Demak Toll Road is expected to further complement the connectivity of road networks in the northern part of Central Java as well as to connect strategic areas, such as ports, airports, industrial areas, and religious tourism areas, especially in the Demak area.

In addition, the construction of toll roads that are integrated with sea embankments is expected to solve the problem of tidal flooding in East Semarang, especially Kaligawe-Sayung which causes significant economic losses, which can be resolved by the end of 2024.
