Support The Distribution Of Basic Materials, Ministry Of PUPR Targets The Development Of The Batu City Main Market After May 2023

JAKARTA - The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) targets the construction of the Batu City Main Market, East Java, to be completed in May. Currently, the construction of the Batu City Main Market itself has reached 84.31 percent.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said market development or rehabilitation was carried out by increasing market function as a means of people's trade, so that it became a safe, comfortable, clean, orderly, and more aesthetic or not slum building.

"It is hoped that quality market infrastructure can be directly felt, especially ensuring the distribution of basic commodities and helping to move the real sector or MSMEs that are evenly distributed to remote villages throughout Indonesia," Basuki said in a press statement, quoted on Tuesday, January 24.

The construction of the Batu City Main Market is carried out by the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW) of East Java, the Directorate General of Human Settlements of the Ministry of PUPR, through APBN funding for the 2021-2023 period worth IDR 168 billion. The scope of work includes the thorough construction of the main market buildings and supporting facilities, such as trash bins, pump houses, and landscapes.

Head of East Java BPPW Muhammad Reva said the construction of the Batu City Main Market referred to the Minister of PUPR Regulation No. 2 of 2015 concerning green buildings.

"This market will prioritize electricity, water, and environmentally friendly, so that buildings are believed to be safe, comfortable, healthy, female friendly, child and disabled," said Reva.

The Batu City Main Market itself is built as high as three floors on an area of 44,525 m2, with a building area of 14,900.62 m2, on the second floor covering an area of 14,143,63 m2, and a third floor covering an area of 6,032.86 m2.

For the distribution of the building, the first floor as a wet zone, the second floor as a dry zone, and the third floor as a food and culinary zone. The number of Main Market stalls in Batu is 1,733 units and a total loss of 1,033 units.

"The construction of healthy and hygienic people's market facilities will improve the means of trade in goods or services in meeting the daily needs of the community, so as to support economic growth, especially Batu City and East Java Province," concluded Reva.
