JAKARTA - The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) released a poll on the assessment of national economic conditions in early 2023. As a result, there were still more respondents who considered the economic condition to be still bad.

As of January 2023, 35.6 percent of respondents had a negative perception of economic conditions. Then, 27.1 percent considered the economic condition good, and 33.7 percent considered it moderate.

"As we can see here in January 2023, in general, there are still more people who negatively assess the economy than those who think positively," said LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in a virtual survey presentation, Sunday, January 22.

Although the economic assessment is in good condition, no more than those who think it is bad, the trend over the past 4 months stated that a good economic assessment has increased.

As of September 2022, a good assessment of the economy was at 20 percent and then increased 7 percent to January 2023. Meanwhile, poor economic assessment in September 2023 was 52 percent and decreased 16 percent to January 2023.

"If we look at trends like this, the trend compared to the last 3 months or 4 months since September last year, then the trend of positive perception has strengthened from September to October to January, although there are still more negative ones," he explained.

The trend of increasing good judgment in terms of the economy is also in line with increasing the value of satisfaction with President Joko Widodo's performance.

As of September 2022, people who considered the President's performance satisfied with 62.2 percent, then in January 2023 it increased to 76.2 percent.

"The majority still feel satisfied with the President's performance even though the perception is negative for conditions. However, if the perception is more positive, satisfaction will be higher, on the other hand if it gets negative then satisfaction will be lower," he explained.

For information, this survey was conducted by telephone on 7-11 January 2023. The population of this survey is Indonesian citizens aged 17 years and over or are married and have a telephone, about 83 percent of the total national population.

A total of 1221 respondents were selected by the random digit dialing (RDD) method. The survey margin of error with the sample size is estimated at 2.9 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
