Optimistic Fast Train Operating June 2023, Menhub: Development Progress Already 84 Percent

JAKARTA - The government continues to accelerate the construction of the Jakarta Bandung High Speed Rail (KCJB) project.

The project is targeted to operate in June 2023. Even though it is actually delayed from the initial target, namely the end of 2021.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said he was optimistic that the construction of the high-speed rail project would be completed soon. So that operations can be carried out according to the target in June 2023.

"God willing, now the progress is 84 percent," Budi told reporters at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, written Thursday, January 19.

This progress increased by about 1 percent from the position in December 2022.

Previously, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) as the head of the KJCB project BUMN consortium revealed that the physical construction of the high-speed train had reached 82.61 percent.

KAI's VP of Public Relations Joni Martinus revealed that the progress of KCJB's investment reached 91.8 percent in December 2022.

Joni said, KAI will oversee the construction of KCJB so that it can be enjoyed by the community according to the set time.

Considering that KAI has also received State Capital Participation (PMN) of IDR 3.2 trillion.

The fresh funds will be used to finance Indonesia's portion of equity on the cost overrun or swelling costs of the KCJB project.

"KAI will use the PMN to finance Indonesia's portion of equity on the cost overrun of the KCJB project so that its construction can achieve the operational target in June 2023," he told reporters, Tuesday, January 3.
