KPK Focuss On Handling Corruption In The Energy And Natural Resources Sector Because Of The Impact Of People's Life Lossing

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that energy corruption and natural resources (SDA) are a concern. The reason is that the practice of rasuah in the two sectors makes it more difficult for the people and damages the environment.

"The allegation of corruption in the mining anode processing cooperation in the energy and natural resources sector is one of the 5 focuses of the KPK corruption eradication area. Because its management has a direct impact on the lives of many people as well as on sustainability," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata in a KPK RI YouTube broadcast, Wednesday, January 18.

The KPK also reminded state-owned companies that take care of natural resources far from corrupt practices. Do not let the PT Antam case happen again.

Alexander said state-owned companies must apply the principles of good corporate governance. Thus, corrupt practices can be avoided.

In addition, Alexander asked all parties to oversee state-owned companies. Mainly, the business process for managing natural resources in the country.

"So that through transparent and accountable management it can have an optimal positive impact on improving the welfare of the wider community," said Alexander.

As previously reported, the KPK detained General Manager of the Metal Management and Purification Business Unit, PT Antam Tbk Dodi Marbes. The detention was carried out because he was suspected of corruption in the cooperation between PT Antam Tbk and PT Loco Montrado in 2017.

In this case, Dodi allegedly did not use the services of the company that had signed the agreement. The decision was taken unilaterally during the cooperation.

He prefers to cooperate with PT Loco Montrado. Dodi did not even report the election to the directors of the state-owned company.

In fact, in the appointment of the private company there were a number of irregularities. First, the company has no the same experience or technical ability as PT Antam Tbk in managing metal anodes.

Furthermore, the private company does not have international certification issued by the association of precious metal traders, namely the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

Finally, the contract was also made with a date pushed back and PT Loco Montrado allegedly exporting metal anodes with banned low gold levels.

As a result of Dodi's actions, the state is said to have lost up to Rp100.7 billion. This amount is obtained from the calculation of the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK).
