JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno also responded to the phenomenon of threatening or buying used goods that are now loved by young people.
From this phenomenon, many local creative economy players have been involved in a thrifting business.
According to Sandiaga, buying used clothes was actually able to help solve environmental problems.
"It turns out that some of the young people are now more interested in this triphing, they see that big foreign brands actually result in environmental impairment because 60 percent of these fashions end up in landfills (final disposal sites)," he said at The Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno, Monday, January 16.
"Well, now buying used clothes turns out to help solve environmental problems and not add to the carbon footprint," he added.
Even so, Sandiaga emphasized that local creative economy actors should not import used goods, including clothes and the like.
"The Minister of Trade prohibits imports of used clothes from abroad. This means that there are opportunities for local creative economy actors. We can sell used goods, but we cannot import used goods," he explained.
Therefore, Sandiaga said, his party strongly supports all activities in developing the potential of local creative economy talents in Indonesia, including products produced by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
"Especially local brands are sensitive to environmental issues and are more environmentally friendly. We encourage them to use natural dyes. Their workforce is also local and their service period is longer," he concluded.
