JAKARTA - A subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk (KRAS), PT Krakatau Tirta Industri (KTI) will build a steel plant (IPA) with a capacity of 600 liters per second with an investment of IDR 300 billion.
KTI Alugoro President Director Mulyowahyudi said that the construction of the WTP is expected to meet new market prospects from the steel industry to petrochemical sectors.
"KTI chooses WTP with steel material because it has an advantage over the accuracy of the design, ease of installation, and more efficient costs, this WTP is also planned to operate in early 2025," he said in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, January 16.
Alugoro said the construction of the steel WTP was the second strategic investment project owned by KTI today after the construction of a seawater installation (SWRO) in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, which has started the construction stage in mid-2022 and is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.
The WTP will be built using steel material and will be the first steel WTP built by KTI in the context of downstreaming KRAS steel products.
With the construction of this WTP, the water supply capability in Cilegon will increase to 3,000 liters/second. KTI is a subsidiary of KRAS, which is engaged in industrial water supply.
"Not only WTP, KTI will also build a new distribution network in the Krakatau Industrial Estate along more than 2.5 kilometers which is planned to be completed by the end of this year in conjunction with increasing mechanical reliability, electricality, and instrumentation through system automation," said Alugoro.
The investment in WTP development worth IDR 300 billion will be funded by PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) which has also funded KTI's previous strategic projects.
