JAKARTA - PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM) targets feronikel factories in East Halmahera (Haltim) to start operating in the second semester of 2023.

ANTM's Director of Business Development, Dolok Robert Silaban, said that until November 2022, the progress of the construction of the Haltim Feronicle Factory with a capacity of 13,500 tons of nickel in feronikel (TNi) had reached 98 percent.

In line with the completion of construction and commissioning of factories, later the Haltim Feronikel Factory will increase the portfolio of the total production capacity of ANTAM's annual ferronickel to 40,500 TNi.

As a follow-up to the implementation of the Electricity Purchase Agreement (PJBTL) for the electricity supply of the East Halmahera Feronicle Factory between ANTAM and PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) (PT PLN) which was signed in March 2022, the current phase of electricity procurement in the form of a Diesel and Gas Power Plant (PLTDG) PT PLN is being implemented.

The ignition of the first phase of 15 megawatts (MW) has started in December 2022.

Furthermore, the second phase of the power generation with a total power of 75 MW is planned to be carried out in the first quarter of 2023 which will be followed by a series of commissioning phases for plants and ferronickel factories.

"Through positive synergy and a strong commitment between ANTM and PT PLN, the implementation of PJBTL can be carried out optimally in order to accelerate the completion of the phase of the construction of the Haltim Feronicle Factory," said Dolok Robert Silaban, Wednesday, January 4.

Previously, it was reported that PT PLN (Persero) had succeeded in relocating Diesel and Gas Power Plants (PLTDG) from Batanghari, South Sumatra to East Halmahera, North Maluku to supply electricity needs for Smelter Feronicel owned by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam).

With this relocation, PLN ensures that electricity supply for the East Halmahera Feronickel Smelter is sufficient for the long term.

The completion of the Haltim Feronicel Factory construction project is ANTM's strategic initiative in downstream-based development in order to increase the added value of mining product commodities and strengthen the core business.
