PJ Governor Heru Imbau WFH During Extreme Weather, Economist Celios: For The Sake Of Economic Recovery, The Company Does Not Need A Good Response

JAKARTA - Economist and Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Bhima Yudhistira responded to the appeal of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono regarding the work from home (WFH) policy amid the threat of extreme weather until early 2023.

Bhima said the company did not need to respond to the appeal with excessive fear. This is because the threat of extreme weather is not too emergency, just like the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Several sector workers who are essential in nature, such as health and public services should continue to operate normally. Then, workers in the tourism sector also need to optimize the moment of the new year to encourage economic recovery. Indeed, the weather needs to be watched out for, but there is no need to overdo it until WFH," he told VOI, Wednesday, December 28.

According to Bhima, if all sectors implement WFH policies, it is feared that later employee productivity could be hampered and led to disruption of economic movement.

"(The WFH appeal) is not urgent. WFH is only effective during the pandemic. After all, now PPKM (Enforcement of Restrictions on Community Activities) wants to be lifted, so WFH should not be used as a phrase for limiting people in their activities," he said.

Previously, Heru explained that the WFH appeal was given to avoid losses due to potential bad weather which is predicted to threaten the Jabodetabek area today.

The WFH appeal applies to private employees and State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will collaborate with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) to implement Weather Modification Technology (TMC). The goal is to re-map disaster-prone locations in anticipation of the impact of extreme weather ahead of the turn of 2023.
