JAKARTA - PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk has set a target to increase its transportation capacity next year.
This target is realized by adding around 70 aircraft units by the end of 2023.
Garuda Indonesia President Director Irfan Setiaputra targets that the number of aircraft operated next year can increase. In addition to the restoration of aircraft that is currently still running, there is also a procurement of new aircraft.
Based on the plan of the Garuda Indonesia company, 63 aircraft units will be restored gradually until July 2023.
Even so, the company still opens up opportunities for the procurement of 5 aircraft.
"Next year there will be around 70, including five additional new ones. In this process there are five narrow bodies. Beyond those that are restored. But there is no need for new (for five additional fleets)," he told reporters, Monday, December 26.
Irfan said, there were a number of considerations that finally led the management to decide to increase the number of fleets.
One of them is to accommodate the increasing need for capacity. Especially considering that the tourism sector has started to rise.
"In our business plan, we see that narrow bodies for domestic needs are lacking. Now they are also visible," he said.
Irfan hopes that the procurement of these five new aircraft can use the Boeing 737 NG aircraft. However, it is also possible that the Boeing A320 aircraft.
"We hope that if we can Boeing 737 NG, we will not rule out Boeing 320 for domestic routes," he explained.
In the procurement of new aircraft, said Irfan, we will use existing lessors.
Even so, said Irfan, his party is open to various choices.
"Those who have entered the interest of lessors who have been working with us. Because there are references," he said.
