JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI has prepared 2.4 million long-distance train tickets for the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023 periods. However, until now it has only been sold, it has only reached 916,000 tickets. The low realization of this sale is due to the behavior of passengers who tend to buy suddenly.

Corporate Deputy Director of Passenger Marketing of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto said ticket sellers for the Christmas and New Year periods have been sold in the range of 40 percent of the total target.

The Christmas and New Year periods set by KAI are from 22 December 2022 to 8 January 2023.

"Because indeed, if typical passengers are currently buying it, it is a bit urgent (thiking) on D-2, H-1 and even on H day. Usually, H-1 has been sold out," said Corporate Deputy Director of Passenger Marketing of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI Raden Agus Dwinanto to reporters, Thursday, December 22.

So far, Agus said, the date of departure that is most popular with the public is December 23 or D-2 Christmas. For that date, tickets sold reached 80 percent of the total provided by KAI.

Selain tanggal tersebut, kata Agus, keberangkatan di tanggal 1 Januari juga menjadi favorit masyarakat. Di mana tiket yang terjual pada tanggal itu mencapai 80 persen.

"On December 23, it was a favorite because long ago (passengers) had booked tickets. Then on January 1, 2023, they were also favorites, below December 31 but quite crowded. Indeed, we predict the peak of transportation on January 1, 2023, the highest passenger", he said.

Currently, Agus said, on December 23, only medium-distance train tickets remain, such as the destination for Jakarta-Bandung or Jakarta-Cirebon. "For the long-distance train, the average train has sold (already sold)," he said.

Agus said, the most popular train class in the Christmas and New Year period this time is economic class. This is reflected in the sold-out ticket sales.

"Economic train, subsidized train have been sold out and then proceed to the next train," he said.

Although train ticket sales are not yet 100 percent, Agus said, KAI continues to increase its travel capacity. Agus said KAI added eight series of fluctuating trains at Pasar Senen and six series at Gambir Station.

Agus said he was optimistic that train tickets would be sold off according to the target. KAI itself has prepared 5.6 million tickets to accommodate travel requests at Christmas and New Year's moments. This number includes 2.5 million long-distance train tickets.

"Optimistic (target) can be achieved. We provide quite a lot of capacity. Usually (sales) move because purchases are in H-2, H-1 and D day," he explained.
