Tighten Security During Christmas And New Year, KAI Asked To Screen Passengers With Metal Detectors

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi specifically instructed PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI to prepare tighter security during the Christmas 2022 and New Year 2023 periods using metal detectors.

Budi revealed that the use of the metal detector aims not to let this year's Christmas and New Year be colored by unpleasant incidents. In addition, so that passengers feel safer.

"I ask that security, use metal detectors as a whole and random. We don't want Nataru's activities to be tainted. KAI, with the cooperation of the TNI and Polri, must be very active in this security," he told reporters. met at Gambir Station, Thursday, December 22.

Budi said that trains are one of the favorite modes of transportation for the public to travel long distances. This is because it is related to timeliness.

Not only that, Budi asked KAI to increase the operating hours of the train. The additional operating hours must be carried out at all travel destinations.

"Let's say 12-hour operations are usually 15 hours, or 15 hours into 18 hours," he said.

This is to accommodate the increase in passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays this time which has increased significantly.

"And that's in all directions, I'm sure it can be done because the company's trains are disciplined in serving the community," he said.

On this occasion, Budi also appealed to all train employees not to be easily lulled by praise.

According to the direction of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), said Minister of Transportation Budi, transportation services during Christmas and New Year must comply with health protocols and also serve passengers with heart.

"The president assigned us cabinet members in a meeting (limited meeting) to serve Christmas and New Year's activities well and maintain the prokes," he said.

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) revealed an increase in the number of public transportation passengers who had gone home from D-7 to D-4 percent of Christmas by 35.23 percent on an annual basis, totaling 593,771 people.

"During the three days of monitoring, namely on 19-21 December 2022, the number of passengers reached 593,771 people. Meanwhile, in the previous year there were only 439,078 passengers," said Ministry of Transportation Spokesperson Adita Irawati.

The details of the highest cumulative number of passengers from D-7 to D-4 at 05.00 WIB, namely on the air transportation mode as many as 213,020 passengers.

This number increased by 30.21 percent compared to the same period last year, which was 163,603 passengers.

Then, road transportation as many as 126,746 passengers, an increase of 44.27 percent compared to last year's 87,854 passengers, crossing transportation as many as 103,484 passengers, an increase of 2.58 percent, compared to last year's 100,882 passengers.

Then, rail transportation was 100,042 passengers, an increase of 96.27 percent compared to last year's 50,971 passengers.

Then, sea transportation was 50,479 passengers, an increase of 41.13 percent compared to last year's 35,768 passengers.
