Passengers WALKing On Christmas And New Year's Eve, Airlines Destroying 98 Extra Flight

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation predicts that there will be a surge in airplane passengers during the 2022 Christmas and 2023 New Year holidays.

A number of airlines have also proposed extra flights or additional flights with a total of 98 flights to accommodate the spike.

The Daily Acting Director General of Civil Aviation Budi Prayitno said the number of aircraft fleets ready to serve passengers during the Christmas and New Year holidays was 402 units and 13 business entities for commercial scheduled air transportation.

In detail, 55 units of Garuda Indonesia aircraft, 91 units of Lion Air aircraft, 48 units of Citilink aircraft, 63 units of Batik Air aircraft, three units of Pelita Air aircraft, 63 units of Batik Air aircraft and 24 units of Susi Air.

Then, 17 AirAsia aircraft, 5 Sriwijaya Air units, two Nam Air units, three Trans Nusa units, 50 Wings Air units, four Trigana Air units and 37 Super Air Jet units.

Budi said that there were already three domestic airlines and one international airline that submitted extra flights or additional flights as of December 13 to the Ministry of Transportation.

"Overall, there are 98 extra flights with 17,400 seats. We will continue to monitor this and provide support to airlines if there are additional routes," Budi said in a press conference, written Thursday, December 15.

The details, namely PT Citilink Indonesia, propose an additional total seat capacity of up to 8,280 seats.

Then there is PT Transnusa Aviation Mandiri with an additional submission of 5,760 passenger seats.

Budi added, PT Sriwijaya Air with a total addition of 480 seats.

"For extra flights abroad, the airline that proposed it was Malindo Air with the Kualanamu-Kuala Lumpur route with a total additional capacity of 2,880 seats," said Budi.
