JAKARTA - Pertamina is considered to be at the forefront of decarbonization efforts. This is evidenced by various active roles of these SOEs in carbon mitigation, in order to achieve the zero emission target by 2060.

"Pertamina shows an extraordinary commitment. They play a very active role in efforts to achieve the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060. It is not excessive to say that currently Pertamina is at the forefront of decarbonization," said Indonesia Energy Watch (IEW) Coordinator, M Adnan Rarasina, in his statement, Tuesday, December 13.

Adnan added, Pertamina proves the seriousness of decarbonization efforts through various strategic steps. Including through accelerating energy transition, involvement in the development of green industrial areas, and also active participation in Business 20 (B20), which is part of the G20 in Bali some time ago.

"Pertamina is very committed to the NZE Roadmap (Road Map) which has been launched. All of that is their evidence as the front line. Even at the global level, Pertamina's seriousness is also recognized, by achieving ESG's second rank for the category of oil and gas industry. All of that is a fact," he continued.

Adnan continued, Pertamina's commitment was also shown by paying full attention to the development of New Renewable Energy (EBT) through the transformation of a green economy. One of the full supports for accelerating the energy transition is shown through active participation in Business 20 (B20) which is part of the G20 in Bali some time ago.

The development of green industrial areas is also an example of Pertamina's participation in decarbonization. For example, when the BUMN plays a role in the development of green industry clusters in Jababeka. Pertamina's participation in the area, among others, is through the installation of panels for rooftop Solar Power Plants (PLTS).

The development of green industrial areas itself, according to Adnan, is very important. For Jababeka, for example, there are more than 2,000 companies from 30 countries. Apart from Pertamina, several companies that collaborated to create the first net zero cluster in Southeast Asia, including Hitachi, Unilever, and L'Oreal.

"One of the largest contributors to carbon is currently an industry. For this reason, Pertamina's efforts in developing green industrial areas are expected to have a real effect on decarbonization. Most importantly, these efforts do not stop there, but must be sustainable," he concluded.
