Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives received an audience with Commission III of the South Kalimantan Provincial DPRD regarding public complaints about the Trans-Kalimantan National Road body at Kilometer 171, West Satui Village, Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan. The road collapsed and landslides were suspected to be due to coal mining activities.

Representatives of the East Kalimantan DPRD said the landslides were adjacent to the former coal mining hole as well as mining activities that were still actively operating, namely PT Arutmin Indonesia and PT Mitra Jaya Abadi Bersama.

For this reason, Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Dony Maryadi Oekon in his conclusion recommended the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to stop mining activities that are not operating according to regulations.

"Especially mining companies that are currently operating around landslide locations. Until there was a decision by the RDP with the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and these mining companies," he said at a meeting in Jakarta, Monday 12 December.

He added that responding to this audience, Commission VII is also committed to following up on the issue and will schedule RDP with the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia and related mining companies, and will schedule a working visit to South Kalimantan Province related to monitoring mining activities in South Kalimantan Province.

"For this reason, we ask Commission III of the South Kalimantan DPRD to submit written data regarding the landslide of the National Road at KM 171 Tanga Bumi Regency, South Kalimantan Province to Commission VII," he explained.

Finally, his party conveyed that he understood the views of the DPRD regarding the inability and ineffectiveness of the existence of mining inspectors in carrying out supervision of mining businesses in South Kalimantan Province.

"We understand this and will pressure ESDM to have a directorate general of law enforcement (Gakkum) like the Ministry of Environment and Forestry," he said.
