The Incar Government Is IDR 232 Trillion Of Your Cigarettes That Are Increasingly Mahal Next Year

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani stated that the government has increased the target of state revenues originating from tobacco excise (CHT) to IDR 232.58 trillion in 2023. According to the Minister of Finance, this figure is higher than the 2022 target of IDR 216.82 trillion.

"The receipt of excise duty by the APBN is always targeted to increase," he said while attending a working meeting with Commission XI of the DPR on Monday, December 12.

The state treasurer explained that in the last five years the average excise increase was 5 percent. In particular for the 2023 period, the CHT increase was designed to jump by about 10 percent from the previous rate.

"The increase in CHT is expected to reduce the prevalence of smoking, especially in the age of 10-18 years which is targeted to be 8.7 percent in 2024," he said.

The Minister of Finance added that the contribution of tobacco excise was recorded to have contributed significantly to state revenues.

"The CHT revenue contributes 12.2 percent of the total state revenue," he said.

From the data shared by the Minister of Finance, it was revealed that a consistent increase in CHT revenues had occurred since 2018, which at that time realized Rp152.9 trillion. Followed by the 2019 period of Rp164.9 trillion, the 2020 period of Rp170.2 trillion, and the 2021 period with a realization of Rp188.8 trillion.

For information, with the increase in the target of excise tobacco products, the government decided to increase the portion of profit sharing funds (DBH) by applicable laws.

Meanwhile, in DBH 2022 the value distributed is 2 percent or equivalent to Rp4.01 trillion. So for the 2023 period and then the portion will be enlarged to 3 percent or around Rp. 6.5 trillion.
