JAKARTA - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is conducting an investigation regarding the explosion of a new coal mine belonging to PT Nusa Alam Lestari in Sawahlunto, West Sumatra. Director General of Mineral and Coal, Ridwan Djamaluddin, said that after the explosion occurred, the mine inspector from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources would conduct further investigations regarding the cause of the explosion. "Four teams from the Inspector of Mines of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources led directly by the Coordinator of the West Sumatra Province Mine Inspector have arrived at the blast site to conduct initial inspections, coordinate the evacuation of victims, and carry out investigations into the explosion incident," he told the media quoted on Saturday, December 10. He continued, all operational activities at the PT Nusa Alam Lestari site had been temporarily suspended, until the results of the investigation of the mine accident resulted in all deaths having been followed up, and operational activities could be carried out safely and safely in accordance with the Letter of the Director General of Mineral and Coal number 06.E/37.04/DJB/2019 dated August 15, 2019 regarding the Circular of Company Obligations regarding Subsequent Mining Accidents As a result of Death. As previously reported, on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 08.50 WIB, an explosion occurred in the DC number 02 hole of the underground coal mine PT Nusa Alam Lestari, which is a Coal Mining Business Permit Number SK IUP OP No.570/1338-Periz/DPM-PTSP/VII/2020, dated July 6, 2020, Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra. The explosion occurred at the beginning of the work shift where there were already 14 mining workers in the mine pit. On December 9, 2022 at 17.50 WIB, the evacuation process was successfully carried out on the 14 people, of which 3 mining workers suffered minor injuries, 1 mining worker suffered burns and has been treated at the Sawahlunto City Hospital, 10 mining workers were declared dead. The bodies of the 10 mining workers have been taken to the Sawahlunto City Hospital. The evacuation process was carried out by the PT Nusa Alam Lestari team in collaboration with the Sawahlunto City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), BASARNAS, Sawahlunto Land Underwater Mining Training Center, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sawahlunto City Government Health Office, TNI, and the Indonesian National Police.
