JAKARTA - Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of the University of Indonesia (UI) and former Minister of Finance Bambang Brodjonegoro said circular economy was able to create 4.4 million new jobs by 2030.

Bambang Brodjonegoro who is also the Chairman of the Board Trustee National Center Sustainability Report (NCSR) said the transition to the circular economy would increase Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by IDR 593-638 trillion or equivalent to 2.3-2.5 percent of GDP by 2030.

He hopes that in the future corporations can create a circular economy because it is a business opportunity today.

Circular economy is a circular economic system approach, by maximizing the usefulness and added value of a raw material, components, and products, so as to reduce the amount of residual material that is not used and disposed of at the final disposal site.

"Circular economy is not just a program through CSR or daily activities, but is part of a new business model. Good cooperation is needed between the government, companies, civil society, financial institutions and research organizations," he said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, November 30.
