PT PLN (Persero) cooperates with authorities in Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia to encourage the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem. This collaboration between countries was realized in The 2022 HAPUA-JEPIC (Heads of ASEAN Utilities/Authorities-Japan Electric Power Information Center) Symposium which took place on November 23-24, 2022 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel Bali, Denpasar.

Through an exhibition titled Accelerating Electric Vehicles Toward Net Zero Emission, the delegates exchanged ideas in the development of the electric vehicle market to strategies towards net zero emissions in 2060.

PLN's Legal and Human Capital Management Director Yusuf Didi Setiarto said this cross-border meeting was useful for increasing insight in the acceleration of the electric vehicle (EV) business in the Asean region.

"A number of the latest developments related to electric vehicles, charging stations, and related technologies were discussed at the meeting. 16 research results from PLN Group and energy companies from 5 countries were recorded," said Didi.

Meanwhile, General Manager of PLN Pusdiklat, Rio Adrianto, explained that all parties must collaborate together to be able to encourage the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

"Of course, we also encourage the government to provide incentives (to optimize electric vehicles) and this is being discussed to achieve this ecosystem," he said.

He added that so far the adaptation of the use of electric vehicles in Indonesia has been quite good. Especially in Bali some time ago where various electric vehicles attended the G20 Summit.

"For now, the highest use of electric vehicles in Jakarta is because the majority of charging facilities are in Jakarta. Maybe Bali will have a good ecosystem next," he said.

With the spirit of encouraging the electric vehicle ecosystem, as of October 2022 nationally, 413 units of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) have been built in 295 locations, of which PLN has participated in the construction of 224 SPKLU units or 54% of the total SPKLU nationally in 135 locations. PLN also digitizes electric vehicle service providers through EV and marketplace features at PLN Mobile.

Based on the International Energy Agency, at least 20 percent of vehicles in ASEAN will already use electric vehicles by 2025. Seeing this potential, there is greater growth space, considering that the total population of the region of more than 680 million people is middle class.
