BALI President of the European Council Charles Michel said that the current economic challenges are more complex than before. According to him, the causes of various turmoil did not only come from sources.

Likewise with the excesses caused which spread to various sectors. One of the highlights of the European Council is the availability of fertilizers.

Charles revealed that the Blue Continent region is quite sensitive to this issue. This is because the availability of sufficient fertilizer means being an important guarantee in terms of food supply.

Therefore, with the recent barriers to fertilizer distribution, it has the potential to pose a serious threat to the welfare of the European people. He also offered to be part of the search for solutions to the current problems.

"So in the fertilizer crisis and disruption of fertilizer supply and I look forward to joining a special side event on this topic tomorrow," he said in an official statement in Bali on the first day of the G20 Summit, Tuesday, November 15.

One of the things Charles offers is to build communication with producing countries so that the supply of fertilizer in the market remains smooth.

"I still believe that we can and we must support developing countries to produce sustainable fertilizers. We have collective strength, but also a tragic responsibility to help ensure a sustainable, safe, and affordable world for all," he said.

Separately, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in his opening speech at the G20 Summit stated that he considered food problems in vulnerable situations.

"If we don't take steps to make enough fertilizer available and affordable prices, then 2023 will be a gloomy year," he said.

The President added that high fertilizer prices pose a serious threat to the sustainability of food supplies.

"High fertilizer prices can make it worse and there is a food crisis, crop failure in various parts of the world and this condition is very serious," he stressed.
