JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan inaugurated the Floating Solar Power Plant (PLTS) of Muara Nusa Dua Reservoir owned by PLN Group. The presence of new and renewable energy-based (EBT) plants with a capacity of 100 kilowatt-peak (kWp) will also support the reliability of the electricity supply for the G20 Summit.

The inauguration of the Floating PLTS Muara Nusa Dua Reservoir was also attended by the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing of the Republic of Indonesia Basuki Hadimuljono and PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo and their ranks.

Luhut said the construction of a floating PLTS was a tangible manifestation of Indonesia's energy transition by intensively building EBT-based plants. This is in line with Indonesia's commitment to reduce carbon emissions to net zero emissions by 2060.

"We will build a lot (PLTS-ed). This is just an intermittent, for the baseload we have geothermal, hydro power, there are various things. Indonesia has 437 gigawatts (GW) of EBT potential, there is still a lot of room to continue to grow," said Luhut.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the PLTS Floating Muara Nusa Dua Reservoir is not only a showcase for the G20 Summit, but also as a symbol that there will be no more energy dilemmas in the future. Changes from dirty energy to clean energy need to be done immediately to create a better earth in the future as well as cheaper costs.

"Our efforts to reduce greenhouse gases are an effort not only because of international agreements, not just policies, because we do really care," said Darmawan.

He explained that the PLTS, which consists of 228 solarcell panels, has been completed and has been successfully tested since early October through Smart Grid innovation. This innovation is one of the programs of the transformation of PLN that uses digital system technology to monitor and manage electricity supply according to load needs.

"Here for the floating from domestically made, the frame is from within the country, all the equipment is domestic. In the future, there is still room for us to build national capacity," said Darmawan.

Darmawan also emphasized PLN's commitment to transitioning energy to Net Zero Emission in 2060 by prioritizing abundant natural potential as well as moving the national economy. Because according to him, by using local products in generating development, the Indonesian economy can also be lifted.

"The energy transition requires more than USD 700 billion or IDR 10 thousand trillion. If it becomes the market share of foreign products, our economy will slow down, the job creation is not in Indonesia, but in other countries," said Darmawan.

Through PLN Indonesia Power subholding, the company completed the PLTS Terapung Muara Nusa Dua Reservoir project in just one month and two weeks. This floating PLTS was built on an area of 0.35 hectares or 1 percent of the Muara Nusa Dua Reservoir area.

This project is a government assignment on July 19, 2022. In September 2022, a number of jobs were carried out, starting from the licensing process, construction to the first phase of synchronization. The PLTS Floating Muara Nusa Dua received an operating-worthy (SLO) certificate on October 28, 2022.

"The PLTS project is also a form of the company's commitment to Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles in creating sustainable economic development," he explained.

Darmawan also expressed his appreciation to the stakeholders involved, both from the Coordinating Ministry, related Ministries, the Governor of Bali and other parties who have actively contributed to the development of the PLTS.

"The task of PLN is to provide electricity. But in the future with the energy transition our main job is to take care of the environment, while electricity is by our products," concluded Darmawan.
