JAKARTA - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for Transportation brought in Canadian investors to conduct studies and construction of green airports in North Kalimantan (Kaltara) with a total estimated investment plan of 200 million US dollars or IDR 3 trillion.

"This agreement is one of 10 memorandums of understanding carried out at B20 activities," said Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce for Transportation, Denon Prawiraatmadja in a statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Friday, November 11.

The seriousness of the investment was marked by the tripartite agreement between PT Whitesky Facility, the Canadian Government, and the Kaltara Regional Government regarding The Green Airport Initiative on a series of Net Zero Summit and B20 Investment Forum events witnessed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, M. Arsjad Rasjid and Chairwomen B20, Shinta W. Kamdani in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Denon said that the green airport in question is low in carbon, which is a source of energy, not from petroleum but with solar panels, then for the management of water sources, it is carried out with hydro and blue energy, all of which will be studied in Kaltara.

It doesn't stop there, said Denon, if the study goes smoothly and good results, it will build an airport in Kaltara. The airport will be optimized to support exports of superior marine products in the area to foreign countries, such as shrimp, fish, crabs and others.

"The initiative of this project is from the Governor of North Kalimantan, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for Transportation brings investors from Canada to develop green airports, which will later be devoted to exports and imports of local products in Kaltara," he said.

From this study, it will also be determined regarding the location and exact position for the construction of the airport later and also related to other supporting facilities including connectivity in transporting marine products to be exported through the airport.

"By 2024 studies and investment profiles are expected to be implemented in North Kalimantan in support of regional economic development. And we also hope that by 2024 in North Kalimantan it will be established and operate green airports with financing from Canadian investors," he said.
