JAKARTA - The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is optimistic about the recovery of public spending this year so that it will support increased sales of furniture, both for export purposes and domestic consumption.

"This optimism is quite reasonable, considering that the export performance of the furniture industry in 2021 will reach a value of 2.5 billion US dollars. This figure has increased by 33 percent from 2020, which is worth 1.9 billion US dollars," said Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika when representing Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita at the National Symposium "Grand Strategy Plan for the 2022-2025 National Industry" Association of Indonesian Mechanics and Crafts Industry (HIMKI), in Jakarta, Thursday 10 November.

In addition, Putu said, the growth in global furniture consumption should be a momentum and opportunity for the local furniture industry to improve its performance.

Based on the results of the Center for Industrial Studies (CSIL) study, global furniture consumption in 2022 is estimated to grow by three percent, which was raised by the stimulus Recovery and Resilience Facility policy in the European Union.

The results of the CSIL study were strengthened by the Outlook Consumer Market issued by Statista, which estimates that global furniture industry revenues will continue to increase consistently from US$1.3 trillion in 2020 to US$1.6 trillion by 2025.

"We continue to maintain global market optimism for the furniture industry and we must immediately seize the opportunities of the domestic furniture industry," said Putu.

In the domestic market, the government's strengthening action to intensify efforts to increase the use of domestic products must also be a momentum for the furniture industry to improve product performance and absorption.

Therefore, said Putu, the domestic furniture and handicraft industry must pay special attention to the management of TKDN certification in order to sell its products in e-Catalog.

The government through the Ministry of Industry this year has prepared a free TKDN certification program for 1,250 products and next year the Ministry of Industry will also fight for additional budgets, so that the free TKDN certificate will increase to 10,000 products in order to reach more industries, especially Small and Medium Industries (IKM).

"We open the door for domestic furniture and handicraft industry players to take advantage of the program. We are trying to make this TKDN certification in the coming year not only cheaper, but also faster," he added.
