JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) on Wednesday, November 2, issued a circular stating that the liquid product from Sido Muncul was confirmed not to contain 4 harmful solvents.
Director of Sido Muncul, Irwan Hidayat, also responded positively to what BPOM said. According to Irwan, this is proof that the products are safe for sale and consumption by the public.
Irwan also ensured that his product did not use and did not contain Ethilen Glikol (EG) and Dietilin Glikol (DEG) which may be in the solvent because the screening test had been carried out in the production stage.
The screening tests carried out by Sido Muncul consist of two stages, namely raw materials and before packing. In these two stages, Sido appears to conduct screening on fertilizers, fertilizers, pesticides, heavy metals and pork DNA (for halalness). However, since the events of liquid drugs containing EG and DEG, Sido Muncul has taken steps to carry out additional EG and DEG tests at each stage.
"Since the incident from the Ministry of Health which prohibitsAMption, we have tested whether there are Ethilen Glikol and Dietilen Glikol. So we carried out this sixth additional test. Each batch (production) is free from EG den DEG," explained Irwan in his statement, quoted Thursday, November 10.
Furthermore, Irwan said, the solvent substance of Poliethylene Glikol, Propilen Glikol is generally used in pharmaceutical companies, not herbal production companies such as Sido Muncul. That way, he reiterated that his product does not use this substance.
"We don't use solvents, because I don't think all herbal medicine factories use solvents because the extract is liquid. If it is disbursed, there is no need to use solvents," said Irwan.
To make the product more secure and free from the aforementioned substance, his party screened using a special tool called GC FID which was able to detect the substance. However, to further ensure its production is free from EG and DEG, Sido appeared and has even ordered a special GC Fid Head Space machine from America that is faster to detect it.
"We buy this tool to support it so that it is faster and more convincing that there is no (dangerous content). For qualitative and quantitative screening (EG and DEG content)," explained Irwan.
With this tool, the production materials of each Sido Muncul product will be detected clearly and faster. In contrast to the previous tool which only showed negative and positive information about ED and DEG content.
Irwan said the purchase of this test kit was carried out as an effort from Sido Muncul to convince the public that its products were safe to consume.
"We are guaranteed that there will be no Ethilen Glikol (EG) and Dietilen Glikol (DG) because each batch is tested and does not use solvent," concluded Irwan.
