EAST KOLAKA - Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo (YSL) appreciates the Southeast Sulawesi Government and the East Kolaka Regency Government for spurring rice farmers so as to increase their agricultural productivity.

"I would like to appreciate the hard work of the Governor (Ali Mazi) who has a focus on increasing productivity (farm in East Kolaka)," said the Minister of Agriculture, quoted by Antara, Sunday, November 6.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo held a rice harvest in Gunung Jaya Village, Dangia District, East Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi.

In this activity, SYL appreciates the synergy of farmers and the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government in increasing productivity over the last few years.

According to SYL, increasing production is President Jokowi's direct order in meeting domestic needs and encouraging regions to export. Therefore, said SYL, collaboration and synergy between the government and farmers must be further strengthened.

"At any time I have to come here to see the activities carried out with the governor and regent. And I think this is the work of almost all governors that I have to appreciate because that is the order of Mr. President Jokowi," he said.

SYL added that agriculture has so far been the strongest sector in dealing with various threats of the global crisis. Agriculture is also the one that has proven to be able to become an economic buffer in the world's midst of a pandemic crisis.

"The strongest farming is when other sectors weaken," he said.

Southeast Sulawesi Governor Ali Mazi said that so far his area is a fertile area that has a large area of rice fields and land that is quite fertile in strengthening national food security.

"Even specifically for Southeast Sulawesi, we have now launched the area, we are suppliers. God willing, our agriculture will progress and be better," he explained.

Meanwhile, at the same place, Director General of Food Crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, Suwandi, said that Southeast Sulawesi Province has the largest potential for food barns in Indonesia because there are large amounts of rice fields and large rice productivity.

"Here I see that the Southeast Sulawesi province's harvest is very good because its productivity is quite large. It is hoped that in the future, the Southeast Sulawesi region will be able to increase its productivity even higher so that it becomes the largest food barn in Indonesia," he said.
