JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) estimates that national rice production will reach 32.07 million tons in 2022, an increase of 0.72 tons or 2.29 percent compared to 2021 which is 31.36 million tons.

"So, the potential for national rice production over the next three months in October-December 2022 is estimated at 5.90 million tons, an increase of 0.78 million tons or 15.12 percent compared to 2021 which is 5.13 million tons", said the Deputy for Statistics of Distribution and Services of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Setianto in Jakarta, quoted from Antara on Monday, October 17.

If we look at rice production per island, the largest contribution is on the island of Java, which is 56.12 percent or 18 million tons, of which 31.07 percent of production is in East Java.

The second contribution to rice production was Sumatra Island at 20.41 percent or 6.55 million tons, with the province with the largest production being South Sumatra contributing 24.20 percent.

Next is Sulawesi which contributes 13.39 percent to produce 4.30 million tons of rice. The largest rice-producing area in South Sulawesi.

The next contribution was 5.22 percent from Bali and Nusa Tenggara which reached 1.67 million tons with the largest rice-producing area, West Nusa Tenggara.

Lastly, Kalimantan contributed 4.26 percent with rice production of 1.37 million tons, and Maluku and Papua with 0.59 percent which produced 0.19 million tons.

Setianto said that productivity data was obtained from tile surveys throughout the year. Rice production is then converted to rice, by converting grain to rice.

"This rice production calculation has removed the scattered grain and rice, as well as unhulled rice and rice used for non-food commodities or feed, seeds, and raw materials for non-food industries", said Setianto.

Thus, the released rice production is rice production for community food.
