JAKARTA - PT Pelayaran Nasional Indonesia or Pelni (Persero) is optimistic that it can carry as many as 3 million passengers by the end of 2022.

Head of the Corporate Secretariat of PT Pelni Opik Taupik said the number of passengers transported until August 2022 was 2.76 million people, surpassing the number of passengers transported throughout 2021.

"In 2021, we have passed the total number of customers who were transported by 2.28 million and we have passed this achievement in August. Until the end of 2022, we are sure that this number can penetrate 3 million customers," said Opik, quoted by Antara, Monday, October 17.

Opik said that Pelni had posted a consolidated profit of IDR 152 billion as of August 2022. For 2023, Pelni is targeting a profit of IDR 233 billion, while by 2024 it is targeting a profit of IDR 355 billion.

"From this target, about 24 percent of it is obtained from the revenue of the goods business. The goods business will later become the main support for Pelni's business," he said.

He believes that this positive performance cannot be separated from the transformation efforts that have been launched by the company since 2019 as outlined in the Company's Long-Term Plan or RJPP from 2020 to 2024.

In 2023, Pelni will strengthen shipping management and business expansion, then in 2024 build a national shipping holding company.

Especially for the national shipping holding company, the holding company in question is the holding structure in Pelni's body which will be prepared on subholding shipping, subholding logistics, subholding services, and subholding property.

"The concept of the Pelni version of the holding will be supported by the presence of existing subsidiaries and business units and will be formed later," he said.

He added that the subholding shipping will be supported by Pelni's production equipment which currently has 106 ships consisting of passenger ships, goods, pioneers, redeems, and livestock.

For subholding logistics comes from subsidiaries and grandchildren who are engaged in loading and unloading and retail and the same applies to subholding services supported by subsidiaries in the service sector and property business units to support subholding property.

"All of these ecosystems are now owned by Pelni Group and will be strengthened to realize the concept of the national shipping holding company earlier in 2024. Of course, support and collaboration with the government, local governments, stakeholders and logistics, as well as customers, we believe we can realize the roadmap that we have compiled until 2024," concluded Opik.
