JAKARTA - Two Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in East Java, namely Singhasari Malang and Java Integrated Industrial and Ports Estate (JIIPE) in Gresik are officially ready to accept investors. "Hopefully the results of today's meeting will immediately spur investment and job creation as well as economic growth in East Java," said Deputy Governor of East Java Emil Elestianto Dardak after attending a meeting related to the SEZ which was attended by the regional council nationally in Surabaya, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, October 12. Singhasari Malang and JIIPE Gresik are two of the total 18 SEZs that have been set by the government. The two SEZs in East Java each have different focuses. SEZ Singhasari Malang will become a center for the development of the digital ecosystem and the creative economy. Meanwhile, SEZ JIIPE Gresik is an integrated area consisting of industrial areas, multifunctional public ports and residential areas with the concept of independent cities. Emil explained that although the two areas had previously operated, with the verification of the readiness submitted by the SEZ National Council, the support process such as fiscal incentives could be carried out more optimally. One of them is tax incentives. Deputy Coordinating Minister for the Economy for Regional Development and Spatial Planning Wahyu Utomo appreciated the readiness of East Java Province in optimizing the two SEZs owned. "This is in accordance with President Joko Widodo's instructions to encourage SEZs as one of the strategies to encourage the regional economy. East Java is expected to provide multiple effects whose impacts can contribute to the national community," he said. Wahyu gave an example of the JIIPE SEZ in Gresik that there are already many investors who have entered, one of which is PT Freeport Indonesia. "This shows that Gresik SEZ has the potential to attract bigger investors. We really care about the land that must be available. Therefore, we make sure that all infrastructure is ready," he said. In addition, Wahyu stressed, to ensure the readiness of investors in the Gresik SEZ, the government has also prepared including financial facilities that have been contained in Government Regulation Number 40 of 2021 concerning commitments to provide fiscal support. "Two SEZs in East Java are ready. Now it's just a matter of how we market this readiness so that more investors will enter the Gresik area, as well as those in Singhasari Malang," he said.
