JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) Moeldoko said the construction project for the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) in North Kalimantan is proof of Indonesia's commitment to developing green energy.

In a statement received in Jakarta, Thursday, Moeldoko said President Joko Widodo several times said that the Kayan Cascade project would be a monumental project for Indonesia in energy transformation.

"This project is a National Strategic Project (PSN), and part of the task of the Presidential Staff Office is to oversee the PSN. This form of cooperation is not just a signature, but after this it must work immediately," said Moeldoko at a collaboration event between PT Kayan Hydro Energy (KHE) and Sumitomo Corporation in Jakarta, Thursday, October 6.

The construction of the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant, continued Moeldoko, became very strategic because it was located in the border area.

Thus, the hydropower development project is expected to be able to boost the economy of the community in the leading region in Indonesia.

He explained that the hydropower project took a long time to complete because all parties, both the government and the private sector, must ensure that development efforts are in accordance with environmental conservation provisions and do not damage forest areas.

For your information, the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant utilizes water resources in the Kayan River, Peso District, Bulungan Regency, which consists of five dams with five to six generating turbines each.

The electricity generated from the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant can reach up to 9,000 megawatts (MW) and will be used to meet green industrial areas in North Kalimantan and the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan.

In addition, the Kayan hydropower plant will also meet the electricity needs of the people on the island of Kalimantan.
