JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are a solution to face the potential global recession which is predicted to occur in 2023.
"The potential for a recession, an economic slowdown that resulted in the loss of job creation and an increase in unemployment, overcomes it with MSMEs because MSMEs create 97 percent of jobs," said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno in Denpasar, Bali, quoted from Antara, Thursday, October 6.
Therefore, he continued, using the opportunity as a solution for Indonesia. As a supporter, his party has also prepared a number of programs.
"We have prepared several programs to anticipate inflation and strengthen supply, as well as make it easier to launch a transparent distribution chain so that it is simple and fair based on digitalization, but to deal with potential recession we are supported by MSMEs," said Sandiaga Uno.
According to him, if a recession occurs, it will trigger a reduction in business activities that can lead to layoffs, then adding that inflation will cause all prices to increase, while MSMEs can still develop because they are quick to find export markets.
Sandiaga also assessed the export program from digital MSMEs as an answer to the potential recession, because the export market has so far increased to 35-45 percent.
"This export adds to the strength of our foreign exchange and also opens up very wide employment opportunities. Pak Jokowi's message, let's join hands because we are now facing inflation, next year there will be potential recession," said the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia.
Currently, said Sandiaga, Indonesia's exports of MSMEs from the creative economy reach 25 billion US dollars and currently there are more than 64 million MSMEs in the country.
In addition, his party has mapped five main markets for Indonesian tourism, namely Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, India, and the UK.
He believes that Indonesia can maintain the rhythm of revival and recovery momentum with the strength of natural and cultural-based tourism products.
"We are targeting next year to reach a visit rate of 5 million and this year around 2.5 million from foreign tourists. However, what will really determine is our Nusantara tourists," said Sandiaga Uno.
Nusantara tourists who will become the backbone, he said, are being encouraged because the government is focusing on the targeted domestic market of 1.4 billion movements this year.
