JAKARTA - PT PGN Tbk as the Gas Subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero) is committed to continuing to strengthen the security management system in all natural gas infrastructure, which is managed by the company and is included in the classification of the national vital object (obvitnas).

PGN's Director of Infrastructure and Technology, Achmad Muchtasyar, said that the commitment to strengthening security awareness and implementation in the security system is to maintain the reliability of all natural gas infrastructure.

"We are committed to expanding the domestic natural gas network to provide energy that is efficient, clean, safe and easy for the community," he said in his statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 28.

Director of Technology and Environment Migas Directorate General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Mirza Mahendra said security awareness is a manifestation of the implementation of the substance of the oil and gas safety management system (SMKM), namely the security management system based on National Police Regulation Number 7 of 2019.

PGN has and operates 95 percent of pipes in the national natural gas downstream industry. In addition, PGN Group also takes a proactive role in supporting government policies in conservation activities through the construction of a household gas network (jargas), which for 2022, PGN targets 400,000 connections.

"The jargas program is expected to contribute to foreign exchange savings from the diversion of LPG, most of which are still imported from other countries. In the medium term, this program is also an effort to fill the transition period to clean energy or new and renewable energy that has become a global commitment," said Achmad.

He continued to support the fulfillment of natural gas needs, including the household sector in areas or cities where there is no transmission pipeline or gas distribution, PGN plans to distribute it with a beyond pipeline scheme through various modes of transportation.

Achmad also emphasized that PGN continues to apply security aspects considering that as a business entity, it is engaged in the oil and gas management sector, so that its business activities have a high operational risk.

PGN's commitment in implementing the security management system in all natural gas infrastructure received the appreciation of Brigadier General Suhendri as Dirpamobvit Korsabhara Baharkam Polri.

According to Suhendri, PGN has become an example as an obvitnas manager who implements a security management system.

Currently, PGN Group operates 11,142 km of natural gas transmission and distribution pipes that serve 759,371 customers, consisting of 754,998 households, 2,504 industries and commercial, and 1,869 small customers in 63 districts/cities.

Subsidiaries and affiliates also manage other business infrastructures, namely storage and LNG regasification through FSRU off the coasts of Lampung and the Java Sea, LNG hub in Arun, filling stations and LNG cargo, LNG and CNG trucking, CNG mother station, SPBG, Jargas MRS, natural gas regulatory stations and distributors, as well as various other natural gas supporting infrastructures in various regions.

"Although the situation and security conditions of PGN's business activities are generally in the safe and controlled categories, we continue to make preemptive and preventive efforts to minimize potential security disturbances, both social disturbances, order, and crime," explained Achmad.

Therefore, synergy is needed between PGN, Polri, TNI, and the community in an effort to prevent security disturbances to PGN Group assets in the form of installations and networks related to company business activities.

"We would like to thank the various parties who took part in securing PGN's natural gas assets. By strengthening the security system of all natural gas infrastructure assets, it shows that PGN is seriously trying to realize the strategic role of natural gas utilization as a development agent and locomotive driving the national economy," said Achmad.
